Whilst working within R&D in 2020 and 2021 I was brought onto the CornMarket team to work on their new initiative into personal data stores. My focus when brought onto the team was the Security aspects of this new system. I was responsible for ensuring that the risks of this new way of storing data was minimised to get approval from InfoSec to go ahead with the project. This required me to look at the overall architecture, perform threat modelling and design and implement the necessary changes.
As part of the project we submitted an IBC paper which won the best technical paper award: https://www.ibc.org/features/ibc-digital-2021-interview-bbc-randd-team-wins-ibc-2021-technical-paper-award/8513.article. An extract from the IBC paper is below:
"This paper presents a way to use an individual’s entire media streaming history from all their providers to inform recommendations without any of the contributing services needing to process or hold the data. To enable this, the user’s personal data is held in a Solid pod, a secure personal web server designed to give the user greater control over their personal data supporting a more flexible approach to how it is used."
